PhotoCraft Online vs Desktop: Versions, Fonts, Saving and AI
Choose PhotoCraft Web or desktop for your task. Compare the hosted v0.5.0 editor with desktop v0.16.0, including fonts, file saving and AI plugins.
Use this site's browser editor for a small edit you can finish and download in one session. Choose a desktop workflow when you need installed fonts, direct file access or a compatible third-party AI integration. Check your exact file before committing to either edition.
PhotoCraft Online is an independent host of PhotoCraft Web v0.5.0. The official desktop release checked on 28 October 2026 is v0.16.0, released on 25 October. A newer upstream release does not update the editor embedded on this site. Official desktop release
Where do I open the Web version or download the desktop app?
Open the browser editor to edit here without installing a desktop application. Use the download guide for links to official Windows, macOS and Linux packages. The upstream Web ZIP is a package for hosting a website; it is not the Windows installer or an AI plugin.
Before following a tutorial, record the edition and version. A screenshot from a newer desktop build may contain menus or fixes absent from this site's older Web package. Our safety guide identifies the hosted artifact and explains download checks.
Which differences affect my task?
| Task | This site's Web v0.5.0 | Official desktop workflow |
|---|---|---|
| Start editing | Load the editor in a supported browser | Install a package matching your OS and architecture |
| Open a local image | Select a file through the browser | Select a file using the operating system |
| Keep your output | Save/Export produces a browser download | Save to a location chosen in the desktop dialog |
| Use fonts | Select from fonts actually available in the hosted build | Install fonts through the OS; discovery still depends on version and font manager |
| Return to unsaved work | Do not rely on tab storage as a project backup | Recovery behavior depends on the desktop build; keep explicit project saves |
| Run an AI plugin | No OpenFill, GenGate or ComfyUI connection on this site | Separate integration, compatible build and backend required |
| Work on a large PSD | Browser memory, document structure and graphics support matter | More direct native access, but no universal file-size or fidelity guarantee |
The v0.5.0 Web guide describes browser downloads and WebGPU/WebGL2 rendering. The newer Web documentation explicitly distinguishes local preferences from document storage and says Web autosave/crash recovery and the desktop TCP control server are unavailable. Do not mistake a remembered theme for a saved project.
Can the browser version use my installed fonts?
Do not assume that a font installed on Windows or Mac will appear in this Web build. Newer upstream Web documentation describes fonts supplied by the hosting site, which differs from scanning a desktop's font folders. This site's v0.5.0 runtime has not been upgraded to provide that newer host catalog.
For a branded PSD, check the exact family, weight, punctuation and line breaks before editing. If the required font is missing, follow adding fonts and fonts not showing, then choose a workflow that can display it correctly. A flattened title can preserve appearance while losing editable text; that tradeoff needs to match the deliverable.
Why did Save download a file instead of updating the original?
The browser workflow produces a new download. Look in the browser's Downloads list, then open the file's folder. The source file you originally selected may remain unchanged. Desktop Save and Save As use file paths and dialogs rather than this site's download flow.
Use Save, Save As and Export to choose a finished PNG/JPEG or an editable master. Before closing the tab, open the output outside the editor and check the image; reopen a saved master separately if you need its layers. Neither a successful click nor a disappearing dialog is enough to verify the file.
Can I use generative fill in PhotoCraft Online?
This site's editor has no connected generative-fill service. Desktop OpenFill and ComfyUI workflows do not become available by uploading a plugin to the webpage. They involve their own installation, version checks and generation backend.
Start with the AI workflow selector, then read OpenFill setup or ComfyUI connections. The integration's source, local hardware and any paid provider are separate decisions from choosing the base editor.
What should I test before using a large or important file?
There is no measured universal maximum PSD size for this site. Compressed file size alone cannot predict memory use: pixel dimensions, layers, masks and undo history all matter. Start with a copy, compare it with a reference image, make one representative edit, export and reopen. Avoid using the only copy of a client document for this check.
On 28 October, we tested the site's v0.5.0 runtime locally on macOS 26.2 in headless Chromium 145.0.7632.6. A 640 × 400 PNG opened, received a brush edit, and exported to PNG and JPG; both downloads decoded independently and reopened with the edit visible. This is a small-image check, not a desktop benchmark or large-file test. A separate basic two-layer PSD test also retained both layers and edits across saving and reopening after correcting an initial stacking discrepancy; complex PSDs and Photoshop reopening remain unverified. See save and export, the recorded review and PSD compatibility checks.
If loading fails, follow browser troubleshooting before repeatedly reloading a tab containing unsaved work. If both editions meet the file requirements, choose the one that reaches a verified output with fewer steps for your task.
